Dr. Elana Ashley & Splunkunio SplunkeyÒ

Ashley and Splunkey combine poetry, storytelling, song, dance, magic and fantasy into a delightful space adventure for varied young audiences [3-5/5-7/8-10]. While learning interesting information about Planet Mars, participants use their fantasy and game playing techniques to help Splunkunio Splunkey® safely pilot the spaceship through outer space and back to Planet Earth. The length of the program is 45 minutes.


SCIENCE FICTION FANTASY & ARTISTIC WORKSHOPS
8-Day Fantasy Workshop Series
Dr. Elana Ashley & Splunkunio Splunkey®
Based upon a series written and illustrated by Dr. Elana Ashley - The Cosmic Adventures of Splunkuno SplunkeyÒ - children listen to the dramatic telling of the hero's science fiction adventures. The first workshop provides an introduction to the series and to basic concepts that develop throughout the narrative. Students learn "Splunkey's Friendship Song" and, in a background of delightful space music, they construct puppets - characters that they use throughout the series. The next six sessions involve dramatization of each of the six stories in the series, followed by ongoing discussion of basic themes. Each session concludes with the making of, or continued work on, an original artistic space creation. In the eighth session, Dr. Ashley and Splunkey bring together important ideas in the series. Children use the opportunity to share their final thoughts and feelings about the topics and issues discussed throughout the workshop series and about their personal experience in the sessions. The duo concludes with poetry and song. Students complete the series with a sense of common goals, a warm bond of friendship, a desire to explore and grow, and an excitement to create. The workshop series is for ages 8 - 10. Each session is one-and-a-half hours in length.

2 - Day Fantasy Workshop Series

Three stories are narrated in each of the two fantasy workshops as students view a series of colorful cartoon illustrations or slides of Splunkey's experiences in outer space. Next, children learn the lyrics and melody to "Splunkey's Friendship Song." Following the singing, Ashley and the children create their own fantasy story together. And, finally, accompanied by outer space music, the children then channel their imaginative energies into a painted, sculpted or puppet-constructed fantasy creation. As Splunkey would say, " The sky's the only limit to artistic genius!" The 2 - day workshop is targeted for students ages 8 - 10. Each session is one-and-a-half hours in length.


	JOURNEY THROUGH INNER SPACE Interactive Performance Exploring the Human Body Dr. Elana Ashley & Splunkunio SplunkeyÒ
		Join the dynamic educational duo as they take you on an inside trip into the workings of the human body. Using large, colorful visuals, songs, poems and stories, Ashley and Splunkey teach children about nutrition and healthy food choices, and the functioning of the digestive, circulatory and respiratory systems.




	STORYTELLING & SINGING Dr. Elana Ashley, Splunkunio SplunkeyÒ & Ellie Elephant combine their dramatic and musical talents into exciting, fun-filled shows for children. Participation of the audience is an active ingredient in all programming. Performances vary in length from thirty minutes to one hour.

	Solo Performance: Dr. Elana Ashley With dramatic flair, Dr. Ashley reads her original works - mythological narratives, science fiction and fantasy stories, and other materials in song, poetry and prose - for audiences of all ages. Duo Performance #1: Dr. Elana Ashley & Splunkunio SplunkeyÒ Incorporating music and magic, the duo of Ashley and Splunkey share fantasy and science fiction adventures. Duo Performance #2: Dr. Elana Ashley & Splunkunio SplunkeyÒ Ashley and Splunkey present either a variety of musical selections or a combination of storytelling and singing. Duo Performance #3: Dr. Elana Ashley & Ellie Elephant Promoting Splunkey's themes of literacy and global unity, Dr. Ashley and Ellie Elephant read to young audiences stories of friendship, cooperation and peace. Participation of children in helping Ellie to identify words and read the stories is encouraged. Duo Performance #4: Dr. Elana Ashley & Ellie Elephant Especially for preschool audiences, Ashley and Ellie delight children with song, stories, poetry and dance. Trio Performance: Dr. Elana Ashley, Splunkunio SplunkeyÒ & Ellie Elephant Based on the themes of character building, friendship and self-esteem, the educational trio weaves magical, fantasy tapestries of songs and stories for young audiences.
